The Role of Nutrition in Strengthening the Immune System

Health services are generally divided into preventive health services and curative health services.

A strong immune system is the most important protective factor in infectious diseases. A healthy and balanced diet is the most important factor in a strong immune system.

Considering especially the infection-immune system relationships, the intake of the energy source and other nutrients needed by the immune system cells into the body is undisputed as a prerequisite for treatment.

Nutrition, which is the most important factor in both preventive and curative health services, has gained more importance especially in recent years when epidemic diseases have increased.

Nutritional considerations to strengthen our immune system include:

  • We must get enough antioxidants in our bodies. Some of the most important antioxidants are vitamins C, A, E, and selenium. Many of these antioxidants are found in vegetables, fruits, whole grains, and legumes.

  • A sufficient amount of probiotic foods should be consumed. Probiotics are beneficial bacteria that live in the gut flora. The most important sources are yogurt and kefir.

  • Inadequate and unbalanced diets, shock diets weaken the immune system. The most important issue in the diet is that it is sufficient and balanced and not uniform.

  • Besides malnutrition, obesity also negatively affects the immune system. Obesity increases susceptibility to infection and delays wound healing.

  • Omega 3 fatty acids and quality proteins also strengthen our immune system. For this reason, we need to consume fish twice a week and low-fat meat/chicken at one meal every day.

  • The most important immune-enhancing nutrient in newborn babies is "breast milk".

  • The "allicin" found in garlic increases the function of immune system cells. Spices such as ginger, turmeric, and thyme are also effective foods in strengthening our immune system.

  • Nutrient digestion, absorption, transport to cells, control of body temperature, etc. Because of its effects, we should consume at least 2 liters of water a day.

At Caramelfood, we take care not only to calculate calories but also to ensure an adequate and balanced intake of micronutrients in our menus. We make sure that all the vegetables and fruits we use are fresh, all foodstuffs are from reliable companies with the necessary certificates and halal certificates for meat and poultry products.
